On Thursday, Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford was named to his seventh preseason watch list when he was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list. The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award is an award that annually recognizes the top senior or upperclassman quarterback set to graduate with his class.
Clifford is on the watch list with reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young and the man who he beat out for the Penn State starting quarterback job, Will Levis of Kentucky.
Clifford is a four-year starter and four-time team captain who has started 33 games in his career, completing 60.4 percent of his passes, along with 64 touchdowns with 24 interceptions. He is in the top five in school history in passing yards, passing touchdowns, passer rating (141.2), completions (607), and attempts.
Last season while battling a shoulder injury midway through the season still completed 61 percent of his passes with 21 touchdowns with 8 interceptions.
Clifford will be looking to follow the blueprint of 2021 winner Kenny Pickett out of Pitt. Pickett was also a four-year starter and a sixth-year senior who had an incredible season, capped off by winning a conference championship and eventually becoming a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft.
Clifford is also on the watch list for the Davey O’Brien Award, Manning Award, Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year, Wuerffel Award, and the Senior Bowl.
