The 29th-annual Coaches vs. Cancer of Penn State Golf Tournament was hosted this afternoon by head coach Mike Rhoades at the Penn State Golf Courses.
The Penn State chapter of Coaches vs. Cancer was established in 1995 by former Nittany Lion head coach Bruce Parkhill who grew up and attended high school in State College and the annual golf tournament was initiated by former head coach, Jerry Dunn, in 1997.
Just this year, CVC-Penn State has surpassed the $5 million fundraising mark and has officially become the fourth Coaches vs. Cancer chapter in the country to reach this milestone.
Rhoades addressed the media Friday and stated how proud he was of Penn State and the State College community to come together and make such an impact in a special way.
He also took basketball-related questions concerning his 2026-2027 roster that has eight new faces up to this point.
When Nittany Sports Now asked the head coach if he thinks the roster right now is better than last year’s roster at this point in the year, Rhoades stated: “Yeah, I just think we’re older and more mature. We’re bigger. Ivan (Juric) is a year older. He’s thirty pounds bigger. He went through a season in the Big Ten. So yeah, I do. That’s what I’m excited about. When you’re older you better be better.”
Then when NSN asked Rhoades if he was concerned at all with having enough time for his new team to gel prior to the season, the head coach said, “Yeah, we’ve all been there. That’s the fun part for me…putting a team together. Watching them compete against each other and then playing together and working together on and off the court. Building them and bonding them.”
