Most of the focus on the Big Ten’s availability report ahead of Penn State-Washington from PSU’s end will be on receivers Chase Sowell and Koby Howard, but there’s another starter on the report.
The good news is that left tackle Malachi Goodman, along with Sowell, is listed as probable.
Goodman, a redshirt freshman, has started all eight of Penn State’s games and, per Pro Football Focus, has played the most snaps of anybody on Penn State’s offense at 505. Goodman’s pass-blocking efficiency rating is 97.4 per Pro Football Focus, which is quite good. He’s given up just 13 pressures and 11 hurries in all of his snaps.
The Penn State offensive line is coming off arguably its best game of the season.
Through the first four games of Big Ten play, many felt part of the reason the team started 0-4 was that it couldn’t impose its will on an opposing defense on the ground.
Well, that changed Saturday, with Penn State going off for 269 yards against Purdue in a 31-17 win. As of now, all signs point to Goodman being available for Washington. If something changes and he can’t go, Penn State doesn’t have an established option to replace him. The next man up would likely be Garrett Sexton, who has played just 45 snaps this season, with 14 coming in Big Ten play.
Also listed as probable for Penn State was Armstrong Nnodim, who has played 138 snaps for PSU this season at defensive tackle.
As coach Matt Campbell said earlier Wednesday, Howard is questionable.
Penn State and Washington are scheduled to kick off at 3:30 on FS1. Here’s the full report.
