Penn State fans found out Tuesday night that one of their best players might be out for Friday night’s matchup at Northwestern, and coach Matt Campbell gave an update on Daryus Dixson’s situation late Wednesday morning.
As expected, Campbell reaffirmed that Dixson is questionable. He also said that Dixson got hurt near the end of the first half of Saturday’s game against Wisconsin at Beaver Stadium.
The good news is that Dixson practiced Wednesday, so the possibility of him playing Friday is very much real.
He’s a guy Penn State would like to have out there, to say the least.
Per Pro Football Focus, Dixson has played 131 snaps, 25 behind Audavion Collins for the team lead. He’s allowed just three receptions on eight targets, with the longest one being just 16 yards, and his passer rating against is 8.3 per PFF. Dixson made his biggest play of the season against Wisconsin Saturday, picking off QB Colton Joseph in the second quarter, which led to a touchdown that put Penn State ahead 17-0. Inexplicably, Penn State lost the game, but it was hardly Dixson’s fault. Penn State needs to beat Northwestern, and without Dixson, that task would be much harder.

Defensively, Max Granville could have become one of the unit’s most dominant players, but suffered a season-ending injury between Week 1 and Week 2.
Hopefully, that isn’t the case with Dixson.
