Former Nittany Lion men’s basketball standout, Calvin Booth, is coming back to Penn State, only this time as a consultant to roster management for the Penn State men’s basketball program, per Jon Sauber of the Centre Daily Times.
Booth, a former general manager of the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, was fired on April 8, 2025 alongside head coach Michael Malone, in a decision that came less than two years after the pair led the team to their first NBA championship
Promoted to GM in 2020 after serving in the front office since 2017, Booth was instrumental in building the 2023 title team by drafting key contributors and managing the roster around Nikola Jokić.
During his time at Penn State, Booth was the 1998 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and was a three-year starter and two-time captain. He currently holds the school record for career blocked shots (428). He led the Big Ten in blocks in all four years that he played, and his career total ranks second in Big Ten history. Booth also averaged 11.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in his career at State College. After his senior season in Happy Valley, Booth was taken as the 35th overall pick by the Washington Wizards in the 1999 NBA Draft.
Booth was previously Assistant General Manager with the Nuggets from 2017-2020. After a 10-year NBA playing career, he entered the front office with the New Orleans Pelicans as a scout in 2012 before working with the Minnesota Timberwolves as a scout and Director of Player Personnel from 2013-17.
