New Penn State coach Matt Campbell and his staff have a lot of work to do in building up the 2027 recruiting class.
Penn State had three players— all with five-star or borderline five-star credentials— committed.
Within hours of head coach James Franklin being fired, all three had de-committed.
The good news is that all three of Penn State’s de-commits— five-star RB Kemon Spell, four-star WR Khalil Taylor and four-star OL Layton Von Brandt, are still in play, and Penn State is even the favorite to land Spell.
Some more good news is that the Class of 2027 is a strong one for Pennsylvania high school football.
One of the top players in that Class just received an in-home visit from Campbell and company.
Per Ryan Snyder of On3Sports, Campbell and some assistants visited Abraham Sesay at his high school, Downingtown East, this past Friday, and Monday, “multiple staff members were back in Downingtown for an in-home visit.”
Sesay is a guy Penn State would love to have.
Rivals.com has him as the No. 35 overall player in the country, the No. 6 EDGE and the No. 3 player in Pennsylvania from his class.
NSN talked with Sesay in November, and he mentioned what he liked about Penn State.
“As a PA guy, everybody thinks about Penn State when they think of Pennsylvania,” Sesay told Nittany Sports Now. “So a really good, prestigious program, amazing academics, everything across the board. So they were high on my board, and even after the change, I still see very highly of Penn State. I still respect them, and I still see their… they’re still a great program.”
The first time NSN talked to Sesay, it was before Penn State had hired Campbell.
When the hire happened, he was excited about it.
“I think it’s great for them to have finally found a coach and to begin building again,” Sesay told NSN via text message. “God bless them and excited to learn more!”
Now, he’s learning more, and we’ll see how successful Penn State is in recruiting him.
