University Park, Pa. — No. 8 Penn State was without standout forward Charlie Cerrato for Saturday’s 5–2 victory over Minnesota, but head coach Guy Gadowsky offered encouraging updates on several injured skaters following Monday’s media availability.
Gadowsky noted after the win that Monday would be an important day in determining the health status of multiple players, and he provided clarity during his press conference. Cerrato, along with forwards Shea Van Olm and defenseman Casey Aman, are all considered day-to-day. Gadowsky said each could be a game-time decision for this weekend’s Big Ten series against Notre Dame at Pegula Ice Arena.
The more concerning update involved forward Braeden Ford. Ford absorbed a heavy hit from Minnesota forward Teddy Townsend on Saturday and will be sidelined for the long term, according to Gadowsky. The injury comes shortly after Ford scored his first goal of the season, finishing a highlight-reel assist from Gavin McKenna.
Cerrato’s potential return would be a significant boost for Penn State. He centers the dangerous “B-T-B” line alongside Matt DiMarsico and JJ Wiebusch, one of the most productive units in the nation. Cerrato leads the Nittany Lions in assists (18) and points (24) and ranks 18th nationally in faceoffs won (218), posting a 59.1% success rate at the dot.
