Penn State football has added to its 2026 recruiting class with a commitment from State College’s own D’Antae Sheffey, first reported by Riley Alberts.
Sheffey is a three-star, 5-foot-11, 195-pound tailback from State College Area High School who also had offers from schools such as Cincinnati, Missouri, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.
Penn State offered Sheffey on the second day of the New Year. He took his official visit to Penn State Jan. 6, and announced his commitment the next evening.
Sheffey is the 11th player to commit to Penn State since Matt Campbell became the head coach and the 13th overall.
Sheffey is the first in-state high school recruit to commit to Penn State in the Campbell era.
Initially, it looked like he was going to go to Syracuse.
Sheffey committed to the Orange in April 2024, and stayed committed through late November.
Missouri was the first team to offer Sheffey after his decommitment, doing so in mid-December.
He had planned to take an official visit to Missouri this weekend, but those plans have presumably changed.
Sheffey made a name for himself in recruiting during his freshman season. He ended that campaign with 1,725 yards and 22 touchdowns.
He remained dominant through his senior season, where he picked up 1,613 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Although Sheffey is listed as a running back, he also played defensive back for State High.
Sheffey is the first RB committed to Penn State football’s 2026 recruiting class.
Penn State has had plenty of great running backs from PA in its history, from “The Reading Rambler” Lenny Moore in the 50s to Nicholas Singleton— also from the Reading area- in the 2020s.
