Penn State Football alumnus Jaylen Reed is expected to rejoin the Houston Texans’ active roster ahead of their Monday, Jan. 12 AFC Wild Card matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Houston has yet to officially announce the move, but they released veteran defensive tackle Darrell Taylor Jr. in a likely corresponding move to create a roster spot for Reed.
Reed, a rookie sixth round pick, landed on injured reserve with a forearm injury on Dec. 6.
While that could’ve brought his rookie season to an untimely end, Reed returned to practice on Jan. 8, giving him a chance to make his NFL playoff debut.
Reed began the season on the sideline owing to an offseason knee injury but still managed to make the Texans’ 53-man roster when he returned, no small feat for a Day 3 draft pick. He’s appeared in seven games this season, starting one, and amassed 14 tackles (nine solo) along with a fumble recovery.
A starter at Penn State during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Reed played in all four years he spent in Happy Valley, racking up 181 tackles (110 solo), 12.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and five interceptions as a steady all-around playmaker.
The Texans’ game at Pittsburgh will begin at 8:15 p.m.
