Former Iowa State defensive back Jeremiah Cooper has committed to Penn State, becoming the latest Cyclones defensive back to join the Nittany Lions through the transfer portal. Cooper brings experience, production, and versatility to a Penn State secondary that continues to be reinforced ahead of the 2026 season.
Cooper was a first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2023 and earned all-conference honorable mention honors in 2024, establishing himself as one of the league’s more reliable defensive backs during his time in Ames. He arrives in State College with one year of eligibility remaining.
The 2025 season was a challenging one for Cooper, as injuries limited him to just four games. In that span, he recorded nine tackles and an interception, allowed opposing quarterbacks complete 35.7% of his passes earning a 74 coverage grade through Pro Football Focus.
He flashed his playmaking ability despite the abbreviated schedule. When healthy, Cooper has proven to be a productive and instinctive defender.
In 2024, Cooper totaled 48 tackles and two interceptions, building on a breakout 2023 campaign in which he posted 45 tackles, 10 pass deflections, and a career-high five interceptions. His ball skills and awareness helped anchor the Iowa State secondary during that stretch.
Cooper offers positional flexibility, with experience at both cornerback and safety, giving Penn State multiple options in how he can be deployed. His veteran presence and proven production make him a valuable addition as the Nittany Lions prepare for the upcoming season.
In four seasons of participation, Cooper has allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete 56.3% of his passes, has eight career interceptions, and 22 pass breakups.
