Another one is off the board in the Penn State coaching search.
Amid speculation that he could leave Louisville, Jeff Brohm has reportedly told the University’s brass that he isn’t leaving.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported this news Tuesday afternoon.
This is the latest development in a day that has narrowed down the Penn State search dramatically before 3 p.m. It started with Ohio State offensive coordinator Brian Hartline taking the South Florida job. Then, Georgia Tech extended Brent Key. Now, it looks like Brohm is off the board.
It would have been hard to see Brohm leaving his alma mater, where he and brothers Brian and Greg all played their college ball (Brian and Greg are also both on Jeff’s staff).
Nonetheless, the fact that Louisville hadn’t yet extended Brohm and Penn State still needed a coach made it natural that he’d be talked about as a person of interest.
There would have been a lot to like about Brohm. He’s proven to be a winning coach, leading Purdue to its only extended period of respectability of the past two decades by going 36-34 from 2017-22. At Louisville, he won 10 games in his first season, nine in his second, and finished the 2025 regular season with an 8-4 record.
Brohm is also an offensive mind, which Penn State fans would prefer given that there hasn’t been a beloved one since Joe Moorhead left after the 2017 season.
Who knows how Brohm would have fit at Penn State, but all of that is a hypothetical now. The 54-year-old— who was also born and raised in Louisville— is staying home.
The Penn State coaching search is ongoing.
