Penn State football’s top-rated Class of 2027 commit is now a five-star recruit.

In 247Sports’ updated ratings, McKeesport star Kemon Spell is now the No. 8 overall player in the country, along with the No. 1 running back and No. 2 player in PA from the Class of 2027.

Spell was the first player to commit to Penn State’s 2027 Class, doing so last August.

Since then, his recruitment has skyrocketed to the point where America’s top programs have pursued him, despite his commitment. Spell scheduled several visits to such schools, but now, it appears that he’s locked in to come to Penn State.

‘I AM STAYING’

Three words sent Penn State fans who follow the recruiting side into a frenzy.

Spell tweeted them out Sept. 14, responding to a thread regarding his recruitment.

Penn State fans received it so well that one of them blew up the tweet and made it a sign to display on College GameDay this past Saturday.

Spell was there for GameDay and there for Penn State’s White Out showdown with Oregon, which it lost in double overtime. Nonetheless, all signs right now point to Spell staying at State. If he does, he’ll be looked at by many as “the next one” in line for a program that’s produced quality running backs with the efficiency the Beatles produced hits.

ELSEWHERE ON THE LIST

Elsewhere on this list, all four of Penn State’s commits are ranked in the top 140.

Layton Von Brandt, a four-star OT from Appoquinimink High School in Middletown, Delaware, is the No. 65 player in the country and the No. 8 overall OT.

Von Brandt ranks even higher in 247’s composite ratings, which have him as a five-star who is the No. 5 OT in the country and the No. 36 overall player.

Two more Western PA guys round out the list. Khalil Taylor, a WPIAL receiver from Pine-Richland, is the No. 102 player in the land per 247, along with the No. 4 player in Pennsylvania and the No. 14 receiver in the country from his Class.

Gabe Jenkins, a four-star from Imani Christian Academy, is the 130th-ranked player, the No. 11 safety and No. 5 overall player from PA.
