Penn State wrestling is in the mix for the top-ranked Class of 2027 recruit.
FloWrestling reported Wednesday afternoon that Melvin Miller, an in-state star from Bishop McCourt High School, has Penn State in his top nine.
Also in the mix are Arizona State, Michigan, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, NC State and Pitt.
As one could probably imagine, Miller is quite the talent. Through his first two college seasons, Miller is 106-4 with two state titles, winning them at 152 pounds as a freshman and 160 this past spring.
At the college level, Miller projects to be a 165 pounder with the chance to bump up to 174.
WILL THIS BE DIFFERENT?
In the 2026 Class, Penn State missed out on the two highest-ranked wrestlers, with Jax Forrest committing to Oklahoma State and Bo Bassett picking Iowaโ both of which are in the hunt for Miller. This blow is softened by the fact that Penn State has the No. 3 recruit from the class, Jayden James, committed, and also has the top two recruits from the โ25 Class, Marcus Blaze and PJ Duke, ready to go.
Penn State also has a McCourt man coming, with William Henckelโ ranked No. 13โ committed to the โ25 Class along with Blaze and Duke, so they know how to recruit the school.
PSU has also won 12 of the past 14 national titles, which probably doesnโt hurt its chances to get anybody.
NOBODY YET
Penn State doesnโt yet have anybody committed to its 2027 Class. For that matter, only James and Sam Herring are committed to its โ26 Class.
Cael Sandersonโs wrestling empire has a stranglehold over everybody else, so whoever Penn State gets, itโs probably a safe bet that theyโll be the real deal.
