Penn State All 105: Will Daryus Dixson Make Instant Impact?

Penn State hasn’t had a problem developing cornerbacks in recent years, and Daryus Dixson could be next in line.

Under CB coach Terry Smith’s watch, Joey Porter Jr. became a first-round talent, and Kalen King, Johnny Dixon and Daequan Hardy weren’t anything to sneeze at, either.

Currently, Penn State has A.J. Harris, who some feel will be a first-round pick, and Elliot Washington, who made headlines over the winter by winning literally every single “Competitor of the Day” honor. But Dixson has made some headlines, too, namely for his Blue-White Game performance.

Dixson broke up multiple passes and laid the book on WR Josiah Brown.

Dixson comes to Penn State with quite a pedigree but how much will we see from him in Year 1?

Before Penn State: Dixon comes to Penn State after a decorated career at California’s famous Mater Dei High School. He came to Penn State as a four-star recruit.

Before making this decision, Dixson held offers from programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC and Washington.

Dixson made an official visit to Washington during the first weekend of the month and had one scheduled to Tennessee, but that didn’t happen after he committed to Penn State in June.

Where he stands: So how much will we see of Dixson in Year 1? Well, the aforementioned Harris and Washington are likely to be Penn State’s starting outside corners. Zion Tracy established himself as Penn State’s No. 1 slot corner. Veterans Audavion Collins and Kolin Dinkins have also impressed the coaching staff. But if the Blue-White Game was any indication, young Dixson will be hard to keep off the field.

A quote by Dixson: “I’d say this decision came down to the relationship that I developed with the coaches. Just reuniting with Coach Smith and me having the opportunity to really get a feel for the whole Penn State coaching staff was important. Just the way they were interacting with me the entire weekend and how they made me, and my family feel like we were right at home. It was just an amazing weekend.” —
