In recruiting news, James Franklin and company were in WPAL country visiting a big time Penn State target.
PSU already has one WPIAL player committed to its 2027 class in McKeesport’s Kemon Spell and would love to have Seton LaSalle’s Khalil Taylor join him.
Taylor is a four-star recruit for now but if he keeps progressing, he’ll likely be a five-star by his senior season, if not sooner.
The 6-foot, 180-pounder is a top 50 overall player in his class per 247Sports. 247 has him as the No. 9 ATH in the country and No. 2 overall player in Pennsylvania. Spell is right behind in at No. 3, and Penn State would love to have that WPIAL duo stay in the state.
‘IT’S CRAZY’
In an interview with Lions247 this past September, Taylor said he was impressed with Penn State’s atmosphere.
It’s probably safe to say Penn State is impressed with Taylor’s abilities as a receiver, which is his main position despite being listed as an athlete.
“The atmosphere, it’s crazy,” Taylor told Lions247. “The fans always show out. Why not start my first college game visit off in the Valley? I talked to coach (James) Franklin and we had a little meeting. He was just telling me they were going to be recruiting me heavily and that they want me.”
“What I like is the love they show me,” Taylor said. “They really want me to stay in contact with them.”
Taylor has stayed in contact with them. Since that visit, Taylor returned to Penn State for the team’s Nov. 2 game with Ohio State. It looks like there will be more visits in his future.
A POSITION OF NEED

Receiver is a position of need for Penn State. Maybe it won’t be by the time Taylor is playing college football but considering Penn State’s receivers didn’t catch a single pass in the team’s Orange Bowl/College Football Playoff semifinal loss to Notre Dame, it’s safe to say that the position is a ? now.
Along with Penn State, schools recruiting Taylor include Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse and West Virginia.
