Somebody named Paterno doesn’t miss former Penn State coach James Franklin.
We can’t speak for Jay Paterno, who, to our knowledge, hasn’t publicly confirmed his feelings on Franklin’s firing, which took place last October.
But Scott Paterno made his feelings known via social media recently.
“Ha!,” Paterno wrote. “We don’t miss him. The story I comment on was how he ‘had a chip on his shoulder’” and wanted to ‘get revenge.’” In other words, your coach can’t get over being dumped.
Oh, and Tech dropped the JMU game…after y’all hired James.
Hey, call me in a couple years…”
The discussion was a debate over non conference scheduling.
Paterno initially tweeted a response to an ESPN article which predicted that Franklin’s new school, Virginia Tech, would win more games than Penn State in 2026.
“Well,” Paterno wrote, “he did run from a game against JMU, and hung on to games against ODU and VMI.”
“What will prevent him from eclipsing PSU’s record is the non-con chaff he schedule here for himself.”
Virginia Tech had been scheduled to play James Madison in 2026, but that was cancelled in January.
A user than sarcastically pointed out that Penn State’s non-conference schedule this season consists of Marshall, Temple and Buffalo, to which Paterno responded:
“Guess who made that schedule? It will take a couple years to clear Franklin’s scheduling.
Nice self own.”
The user “Skins, Caps and Hokies” then made the comment that led to Paterno’s “we don’t miss him” response.
“So you’re saying schedules were made years ago, but also saying that tech wasn’t,” the post read. “You’re a dork dude get over your ex coach.”
Time will tell if Penn State made the right decision by letting Franklin go.
What’s clear is, Penn State and Virginia Tech fans like each other less than they did last October.
