Former Penn State DB’s Blunder Costs Cowboys

A former Penn State defensive back isn’t a popular figure in Dallas tonight.

Amani Oruwariye, a Cowboys DB who played at Penn State from 2014-18 and is in his first season with Dallas, made a mistake that could have been the difference between Dallas winning and losing it’s Monday Night matchup with the Bengals in Jerry World.

With exactly two minutes left, the Bengals set up to punt.

Dallas blocked that punt, which should have meant the Cowboys would have the ball deep in Cincy’s territory, only needing a field goal to take a late lead. The thing was, nobody from the Cowboys could touch the ball since the punt had been blocked behind the line of scrimmage.

For some reason, Oruwariye tried to grab it. He muffed it, and Cincy ended up getting the ball at its 43.

Three plays later, Joe Burrow hit Ja’Marr Chase for a 40-yard TD with 1:01 left.

Cincy held on for a 27-20 win.
