Penn State coach James Franklin didn’t say anything about why star running back Nick Singleton wasn’t seen by media at practice Wednesday.
That wasn’t a surprise.
So when Penn State RB Ja’Juan Seider was asked about why Singleton seen, Penn State’s beat reporters didn’t expect to get an elaborate answer, and Seider did not give one.
When initially asked, Seider said he felt that Franklin addressed the topic yesterday. When the reporter who asked the question pointed out that Franklin didn’t really answer when asked about it Wednesday, Seider still didn’t budge.
It’s anyone’s guess as to why Singleton wasn’t at practice, at least for the media’s viewing window.
Nick Singleton didn’t suffer a visible injury against Illinois and, as a matter of fact, was one of the players Penn State selected for its weekly media availabilities Tuesday morning.
But come Wednesday evening, the media didn’t see him, and regardless of the situation, that’s certainly grounds for a story.
Franklin was asked if there was “anything going on that might impact his availability.”
“No,” he said. “Not at this stage.”
He was then asked “is there anything further you can tell us?”
“No,” he said. “Which, I think, for 11 years, I haven’t told you guys.”
“You understand we have to ask,” the reporter (different from the one who asked Seider Thursday), responded.
”I get it,” Franklin said. “Really, I’d love to talk about that at some point. Why you have to ask if I’m not going to answer, you’re wasting a question, in my mind. But that’s your job. I don’t understand it. I’d like to understand it better.”
No. 7 Penn State takes on UCLA Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for noon on Fox.
