Penn State coach James Franklin doesn’t talk about injuries or anything of that nature, and the case of Nick Singleton is no exception.
So it was no surprise that, when Penn State football’s beat reporters didn’t see star HB Singleton during their weekly Wednesday practice viewing window, he didn’t elaborate on whatever the situation may be.
Singleton didn’t suffer an apparent injury during Saturday’s win over Illinois and talked with reporters via Zoom Tuesday, something that’s hard to picture happening if Singleton had been hurt at that point.
But for reasons still unknown, Singleton wasn’t seen by media Wednesday, and as expected, he was asked about it about an hour and a half later in the weekly scrum.
Franklin was asked if there was “anything going on that might impact his availability.”
“No,” he said. “Not at this stage.”
He was then asked “is there anything further you can tell us?”
To quote “The Band,” “No” was all he said.
“Which, I think, for 11 years, I haven’t told you guys.”
“You understand we have to ask,” the reporter responded.
”I get it,” Franklin said. “Really, I’d love to talk about that at some point. Why you have to ask if I’m not going to answer, you’re wasting a question, in my mind. But that’s your job. I don’t understand it. I’d like to understand it better.”
What’s going on with Nick Singleton is anybody’s guess, but what’s not a mystery is that he’s one of Penn State’s best players.
Through four games, Singleton’s rushed for 408 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 7.2 yards per carry. He’s been effective in the passing game, catching six balls for 82 yards and two scores.”
