The second Penn State availability report of the 2024 season is now public knowledge, and as usual, there’s some good news along with bad news.
Starting with the good news, tight end Khalil Dinkins is not listed on the report and therefore slated to play for the first time this season.
Dinkins practiced this week, so this news shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Nonetheless, his presence is welcome, especially considering another TE behind Tyler Warren who played 24 snaps at WVU last week is listed as out. Andrew Rappleyea, a second-year tight end many are expecting to take a leap in 2024, will not play against Bowling Green. Nor will Ta’Mere Robinson, another second-year guy who Penn State and its fans have high hopes for.
Robinson was Penn State’s Special Team’s Player of the Week for Game 1, but defensively, only played one snap (per Pro Football Focus) before getting hurt and missing the rest of the game.
The only player listed as questionable is third-string QB Ethan Grunkemeyer. Grunkemeyer is the third stung by virtue of Jaxon Smolik suffering a serious injury during spring practice.
There aren’t a ton of games that Grunkemeyer figures to play in this season but Bowling Green could have been one of them.
Now, his status is up in the air.
Smolik, on the other hand, has practiced with the team since his injury but has been listed as OUT for the first two games.
Here’s Penn State’s full injury report ahead of today’s noon kick against Bowling Green at Beaver Stadium.
