It’s looking like 2024 might not be the true freshman season Peter Gonzalez hoped for at Penn State.
Although Gonzalez wasn’t likely to start as a true freshman, his size and PSU’s receivers room being a question mark could have helped him get some playing time in Year 1.
Now, that might not happen.
After a fall practice, coach James Franklin told reporters that Gonzalez was dealing with a “long-term injury,” which seems to mean that he’ll miss some games with Penn State being less than two weeks away from the season opener against West Virginia in Morgantown.
Despite the injury, Gonzalez has a promising career ahead at Penn State, and he’s the latest subject of All 105, a Nittany Sports Now series profiling each Penn State player.
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 203 pounds

Before Penn State: Gonzalez is the son of “Pistol” Pete Gonzalez, who started at QB for Pitt in the late 90s. After committing to Penn State in June 2023, Gonzalez went onto have a monster senior season. He ended the year with 1,081 yards and 12 touchdowns on 47 receptions and left PCC as the school’s all-time receiving leader.
He committed to Penn State in June 2023 and signed in December.
Where he stands: Until Gonzalez is medically cleared, all he can do is work to get back on the field. Fortunately, he’s a true freshman, so there’s plenty of time to heal.
A quote by Gonzalez: “I think, growing up, and with my dad being a legacy there, that it’s always kind of been a kid’s dream to play for his dad’s alma mater. But through this process, we’ve kind of just narrowed things down to what was best for me, and Penn State felt like the best choice.” — Gonzalez to Nittany Sports Now before making his commitment official.
A quote about Gonzalez: “The number one thing you’re getting with Peter is he’s an explosive athlete with all the measurables and ability to play the position He has tremendous ball skills and uses his body well. He has tremendous upside and is a tireless, self-driven worker and set the tone with his effort in practice and mastering his craft.” — Central Catholic coach Ryan Lehmeier to Ryan Snyder of On3Sports on Gonzalez.
