Trying to bring a few top-notch wide receivers has been a major off-season theme for the Penn State football program.
Despite being finalists, Penn State has fallen short in their attempt to land 2025 4-star wide out Taz Williams Jr. and 4-star wide out and Harrisburg native Lex Cyrus.
Prior to their final decisions, many recruiting analysts believed that Penn State was the leading candidate for both players but that wasn’t the case.
While they continue to look to add a wide receiver to their Class of 2025, Penn State football learned today that they made the initial cut for a top play maker in the Class of 2026.
2026 4-star wide receiver Xavier Owens from Harbor City, California, released his Top 10 schools today and it included Penn State.
Owens (6’2″, 160-pounds) announced on Twitter a Top 10 of Penn State, Oklahoma, SMU, Arizona, Colorado State, Ole Miss, Washington, Georgia, Colorado and Miami, Fla. Rivals.com ranks Owens as one of the Top 20 junior receivers in the country and one of the Top 200 overall players in the Class of 2026.

Following this announcement, Nittany Sports Now caught up with Owens to get his thoughts on Penn State and what led to them making his initial cut.
“Penn State has always been a school that I gravitated to because of the amazing fan base and how live the stadium is,” Owens tells Nittany Sports Now. “It would be great to play in that type of environment especially because I love the big-time stage.”
“I love the atmosphere and the competitiveness of the team. Penn State has developed some great players and have really been consistent with getting guys out (to the NFL). I’m planning to make a list of visits and there definitely on it. I want to get down there and meet more of the staff and some players and get a tighter relationship with everyone possible there.”
Owens tells us that Penn State’s recruiting coordinator D.J. Bryant has been one of his main recruiters. Bryant joined the Penn State last season from Colorado, where he was their assistant director of player personnel.
Excited to say i’ve been blessed to receive my 12th Division 1 offer from Penn State!!🔵⚫️ #weare
