One of Penn State football’s top remaining Class of 2025 targets has committed to another school.
Thursday afternoon, Lex Cyrus, a four-star WR from Sesquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, announced his commitment to South Carolina at a ceremony inside his high school.
Cyrus, a 5-foot-10, 170-pounder, was down to Penn State and South Carolina.
Those were also the two schools he took official visits to. On the last weekend of May, Cyrus visited Penn State, then took his South Carolina the next weekend. Along with Penn State and South Carolina, Cyrus had offers from schools such as Auburn, Duke, Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Temple, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Cyrus has been on Penn State’s radar for a while. The school offered him in June 2023. Since then, he’s visited Beaver Stadium for two games— against Iowa Sept. 23 and Michigan Nov. 11– and, most recently, took his official visit the last weekend of May.
Per 247Sports’ composite rankings, Cyrus is the No. 8 player in Pennsylvania and the No. 34 WR in the country.
This would have been a big commitment for Penn State for a number of reasons— the main ones being Cyrus talent and the programs struggles at receiver, which plagued the team in 2023 and are the No. 1 concern for many fans in 2024.
Cyrus committing would also be big due to the fact that Penn State has missed out on some of Pennsylvania’s best Class of 2025 prospects.
The No. 1 PA player in the class, Spring-Ford QB Matt Zollers, had Penn State as a finalist but committed to Missouri.
OL Michael Carroll, a legacy prospect from Central Bucks East, committed to Alabama and Zahir Mathis, a star from Philly’s famous Imhotep Charter, is committed to Ohio State (although he did take an OV to Penn State the weekend of June 21).
Penn State does have six PA prospects committed to its Class of 2025.
PSU also has two receivers committed to its ‘25 class: four-star Jeff Exioner and three-star Lyrick Samuel. Penn State is also waiting on four-star Taz Williams.
