UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa — Neither you, nor I or even Penn State coach James Franklin know when the 2024 rendition of the White Out is going to be.
Well, Franklin does have an inside scoop of what could happen and where he thinks it will fall as he told a group of reporters in attendance for his annual Lift For Life media availability.
“I have an idea of where it’s trending,” Franklin said.
Of course that’s not the answer Penn State fans had in mind when it comes to knowing where the White Out will fall. It’s a decision in the hands of network executives as well as the conference big wigs.
“It’s not solely my answer or even Pat (Kraft)’s answer,” Franklin said. “If we want to provide the opponent, the experience, the time of day that our fanbase wants and expects, there’s a lot of pushing and pulling and compromising, working with the conference, working with the TV partners to try to find a win-win for everybody.”
It’s certainly a challenge with all the moving pieces and parts that go into the college, game day and fan experience leading up to and far beyond the event itself.
“The challenge with that is we have pressure across the campus as well,” Franklin said. “All the other themes kind of have to wait for this one and all the other themes come from that. Those other themes impact a bunch of different departments and a bunch of different places on campus.”
As conference schedules sort themselves out, the White Out opponent is sure to be found out sooner rather than later, but like many others, Franklin and his staff are eagerly awaiting the announcement, too.
