Two former Penn State All-Americans will be running for Board of Trustees this spring.
One of them is running for re-election and the other is running for the first time.
Brandon Short (‘99), who was an All-American for his play at linebacker during the 1999 season, was elected to the board in the summer of 2018 and is running again.
Carl Nassib (‘15), an All-American at Penn State in 2015 was in the NFL in 2018 and retired this past September. Nassib is now running for the board on a slate with Short and Steve Wagman. Wagman (‘82), didn’t play football at Penn State but served 40 years as a Vice President in Siemens’ healthcare division.
I’m excited to announce that I’m running on a slate for re-election to Penn State’s Board with Carl Nassib and Steve Wagman. They’re both great leaders and have the talent, vision, and strength to lead Penn State into the future. @PennStateAlums @PennStateFball pic.twitter.com/u8iVPz4CU2

Each candidate has “key areas of focus,” and Nassib’s are;
- Financial Stability for all Students
- Empowering PSU students and Alumni to Achieve their Greatest Potential
- Improving Penn State’s School Ranking Nationally
- Supporting Penn State Athletics in the New Era of the Big Ten
Nassib played in the league for seven seasons, spending time with the Browns (2016-17), Buccaneers (2018-19, 22) and Raiders (2020-21).
He started games in all but one of those years, the most being in 2017 when he started 12 games for the Browns.
But Nassib is probably best known for becoming the first openly gay NFL player to play in a regular season game, which he did in 2021 when he played for the Raiders. In his statement announcing his retirement, Nassib wrote that he was retiring to focus on his company, Rayze. Per the Associated Press, Rayze is an “app that links people to each other and to nonprofits that appeal to their interests or are based where they live. Nassib is the creator.
