A day after Penn State men’s hockey beat Wisconsin to improve to 7-0-0 for the first time in school history, the Nittany Lions kept the beat going by completing a sweep of Wisconsin in Madison.
The Lions fought for a 2-1 win in Friday’s opener and had an easier time Saturday, taking care of Wisconsin, 4-0.
Penn State drew first blood at 2:59 of the first period when Connor McMenamin scored. Midway through the second period, Tyler Paquette, who scored in the series opener, thought he had scored again. But the goal was waved off after review.
Penn State got that second goal early in the third period, getting a power-play tally courtesy of Ashton Calder.
Halfway through the period, Penn State got a third on a goal by Xander Lamppa, who assisted on Penn State’s first goal of the night.
Finally, Penn State got a fourth on an empty netter by Connor MacEachern.
Penn State got another shutout from goalie Liam Souliere, who saved all 32 Badger shots.
Penn State is 2-0 in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions returns to Pegula Ice Arena Friday, Nov. 4, for a Big Ten matchup with Michigan. Penn State and Michigan have a two-game series that concludes Saturday, Nov. 5.
