Drew Allar made an unexpected college football debut in Penn State’s Week 1 win at Purdue.
He came into that game in the third quarter out of necessity. Penn State’s regular starter, Sean Clifford, had to leave the game due to cramps briefly.
In Week 2, Allar again came into the game during the third quarter, but this time, it was because Penn State coach James Franklin wanted him to. With Penn State comfortably ahead, 26-7, over Ohio, Allar entered the game in relief of Clifford with 11:33 left in the third quarter.
He then led Penn State on a five-play, 70-yard scoring drive that ended on Allar’s first college touchdown pass, a 32-yard strike to another true freshman, Omari Evans.
Allar, the five-star from Medina, Ohio, went 3-3 for 51 yards on the drive. Penn State leads Ohio, 40-7, at the end of the third quarter.
