SEATTLE, Wash. – Wide receiver Chase Sowell picked up where he left off.
After missing Penn State’s win over Purdue, the veteran receiver returned against Washington and delivered another 100-yard performance, giving Rocco Becht a familiar target for some of the afternoon’s biggest throws.
As of this writing, Sowell had four catches for 125 yards and a touchdown, pushing his season totals to 38 receptions, 635 yards and four receiving touchdowns.
His latest contribution to get him over the 100-yard mark came with Penn State facing third-and-9 from its own 26 early in the third quarter. Becht found Sowell deep down the left side for a 36-yard gain to Washington’s 38, extending the possession and sending Sowell beyond the century mark.
Earlier, Sowell caught a 45-yard touchdown with 10:03 remaining in the second quarter, helping Penn State build a 21-3 lead. That reception also gave Becht his 100th career total touchdown responsible for.
For Sowell, Saturday marked his second consecutive appearance with at least 100 receiving yards.
In his previous game, against Michigan, he caught a career-high 11 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown. His absence against Purdue interrupted that production, but Washington quickly learned his return restored a significant threat to Penn State’s passing game.
His season is also reaching territory few recent Penn State wide receivers have occupied.
Since 2020, only Jahan Dotson (2020, 2021), Parker Washington (2021), KeAndre Lambert-Smith (2023) and Harrison Wallace III (2024) have produced a season with more receiving yards by a wide receiver than Sowell’s current 635.
With Saturday’s game still unfolding, Sowell had already made his return count with another productive afternoon for Penn State.
