SEATTLE, Wash. – Wide receiver Zay Robinson’s availability was uncertain entering Saturday. His impact against Washington was not.
The Penn State redshirt freshman caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Rocco Becht on third-and-10, helping the Nittany Lions take a 14-3 lead with 14:43 remaining in the first half.
Robinson entered the game listed as questionable and was a game-time decision.
Once on the field, he delivered a scoring play that turned a potential stalled possession into seven points.
The touchdown was Robinson’s second of the season and the second of his collegiate career, giving Penn State another contribution from a receiver whose first catch also reached the end zone.
Robinson introduced himself to the Nittany Lions’ offense in the season opener against Marshall, catching a 39-yard touchdown pass for his first career reception. That score was Becht’s fourth touchdown pass of the day in Penn State’s 45-0 victory.
Against Washington, the connection resurfaced at an important moment.
Facing third-and-long, Becht found Robinson for a touchdown that helped extend Penn State’s advantage to 11 points. The scoring pass followed an early rushing touchdown from Carson Hansen, giving the Nittany Lions touchdowns through both the running and passing games.
For Robinson, the play supplied an immediate answer to questions about whether he could contribute after appearing on the availability report.
It also gave Penn State a timely offensive boost as the Nittany Lions sought their second consecutive victory following last week’s win over Purdue.
Questionable before kickoff, Robinson had already made himself a significant part of Penn State’s early offense.
