Penn State athletics hasn’t raised as much as it would have liked to on the Beaver Stadium revitalization project.

Nope. It’s raised more.

The Centre Daily Times reported that a $5 million donation earlier this month from Bob and Sandy Poole put Penn State ahead of its $134.3 million goal set in May 2024.

The CDT also reported that the athletic department declined to name the exact figure that Penn State has raised. Of course, fundraising is only part of the battle. The total cost of the renovation project could be as much as $700 million. But Penn State athletic director Pat Kraft told one of Penn State’s Board of Trustees committees that the department wanted around 20% of the cost to be through donations.

It is time for Penn State to catch up to its peers,Kraft told the committee two years ago.

Beaver Stadium hasn’t undergone major renovations since 2001.

That year, the stadium increased to 60 skyboxes, 107,282 seats (up 11,500) and added a concourse and restroom facilities.

The first game post-renovations is best remembered for Adam Taliaferro’s walkout of the tunnel less than a year after suffering a career-ending spinal cord injury. The current renovations are set to be complete in 2027, and here are some of the key points.

  • New premium seating (suites, boxes)
  • New concessions contract
  • Additional philanthropy and naming
  • Additional special events revenues
  • Better circulation
  • Invited Club
  • TV/multimedia rights/ contracts
  • Big Ten conference revenues
  • Disciplined fiscal management/budgeting (more), conservative than consultant proposal from 2022)
