Penn State has earned a national reputation as an EDGE factory, consistently recruiting and developing elite pass rushers into NFL talent.
Micah Parsons, Odafe Oweh, Chop Robinson and Abdul Carter all honed their games in Happy Valley before taking the next step to the professional level. Now, the PSU may have its sights set on the next potential star from the desert.
On Tuesday, Penn State extended an offer to Jalanie George, a five-star EDGE rusher from Desert Edge High School in Goodyear, Arizona.
George is rated as a 247Sports Composite five-star prospect, the No. 2 overall player in the class and the top EDGE defender in the early 2028 cycle, making the offer a significant early move by Matt Campbell’s staff.
The offer came after a conversation with Penn State quarterbacks coach Jake Waters and marked the 24th scholarship offer of his recruitment. While the process is still in its infancy, Penn State’s track record at the position immediately places PSU among the most intriguing suitors.
George already looks the part of a future impact defender. Listed at 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, he boasts a frame that should comfortably add more weight as he matures. His freshman film shows advanced play speed, impressive backside pursuit, and a rare combination of size and burst off the edge. George posted 63 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and five sacks in 2024, earning MaxPreps Freshman All-American honors while helping Desert Edge capture the Arizona 5A state championship.
Still early in the cycle, George could eventually outgrow the EDGE role, but Penn State football’s proven developmental pipeline makes the Nittany Lions a program to watch as his recruiting story unfolds.
