The Penn State men’s basketball team will return home Sunday afternoon after a two-game road swing and host Minnesota in the Bryce Jordan Center.
The (10-11, 3-7) Golden Gophers are led by first-year head coach, Niko Medved, who came to Minnesota after serving at the helm of Colorado State for seven years.
They are led by four players who are averaging double-digits in points.
Cade Tyson is a 6′-7″ senior guard who is leading the team in scoring at 20.1 ppg. He is also grabbing 5.5 rpg. and is shooting 50.4% from the field.
Jaylen Crocker-Johnson is a 6′-8″ junior forward who is averaging 13.6 ppg. along with 6.9 rpg.
He is followed by 6′-4″ senior guard, Langston Reynolds, who is averaging 10.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
Then, Isaac Asuma is a 6′-3″ sophomore guard who is scoring 10.3 ppg., grabbing 4.3 rpg. and dishing out 4.1 apg.
The Golden Gophers have lost their last six games with the last one being against Wisconsin on January 28 where they dropped the contest 63-67.
The (9-12, 0-10) Nittany Lions are coming into Sunday’s Coaches vs. Cancer and Alumni Day game still looking for their first Big Ten win of the season.
They are coming off a lost against Northwestern where they fell to the Wildcats, 73-94, in Evanston, Illinois.
Freshman point guard, Kayden Mingo, is still leading the way for the Nittany Lions at 14.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game. He is the third-highest scoring freshman in the Big Ten.
Redshirt junior guard, Freddie Dilione V., follows at 13.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
Then 7-foot freshman forward, Ivan Juric, leads the team in rebounding at 5.1 rebounds per game and also has a team-high field goal percentage of 54.8%. Juric is also scoring 9.4 points per game.
Sunday’s Alumni Day game will welcome home a number of program alumni, including honoring the 25-year anniversary of the 2001 Nittany Lion team that advanced to the Sweet 16 and the 15-year anniversary of the 2011 NCAA Tournament team.
The Nittany Lions and Golden Gophers will tip at 2:00 P.M. and the game will air live on NBCSN and Peacock.
