Penn State men’s basketball signed 6′-4″ guard from Davidson College, Roberts Blums, on April 20.
Blums is from Riga, Latvia and comes to State College as a junior.
He was Davidson’s leading scorer as a sophomore in 2025-26, averaging 12.4 points per game to go along with 3.4 rebounds per contest.
Blums made (77) 3-pointers last season for the Wildcats and registered 21 double-digit scoring efforts and three 20-plus point games.
His 77 made 3-pointers would have been first on Penn State’s team last year by 35. Freddie Dilione led the Nittany Lions with 42 made threes last season.
Prior to Blums even stepping foot on PSU’s campus, Coach Rhoades knew they were getting a good one:
At the time of signing, Rhoades said, “Roberts possesses a great ability to stretch the floor, make quick decisions and create his own shot. He will provide an experienced backcourt presence and we expect him to make an immediate impact as a reliable perimeter threat. We’re excited to welcome him to our Penn State basketball family!”
Now that Blums is in State College and taking part in the team’s offseason workouts, the sharpshooting Latvian has already exceeded the coaching staff’s expectations of him.

Coach Rhoades answered, “Roberts Blums from Davidson. He’s just my type of guy. My type of guard. He’s just super-competitive, works so hard, so into it. I knew he was a good player coming from a good program like Davidson and he was going to have a lot of things that we were going to like, but he’s taking it to a whole other level.”
This is great news for Penn State hoop fans, because at this time last year Coach Rhoades said that 7′-0″ center, Ivan Juric, was their most surprising, impactful player.
Juric went on to having a great freshman season and may have been the team’s all-around best player.
We shall see if Coach Rhoades’ assessment of Blums turns into positive production for the new look Nittany Lions this upcoming season.
