New Penn State coach Matt Campbell emphasized during his introductory press conference in December that the program will prioritize recruiting elite talent to State College.
Campbell and his staff have already focused heavily on reconnecting with former Class of 2027 commits who were once pledged to Penn State before James Franklin was fired back in October and that effort is starting to show results.
Over the weekend, 247Sports’ Brian Dohn logged a crystal ball prediction for five-star McKeesport (McKeesport, PA) running back Kemon Spell to land with Penn State.
On Tuesday, On3/Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong followed up with his latest “Fong Bomb,” also projecting Spell to Penn State.
With momentum building, Spell announced he’ll be visiting Penn State again this weekend, but it was the reaction to that post that caught people’s attention.
Four-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor of Pine-Richland jumped into the conversation on X, posting: “wyo brudda.”
Spell replied: “Ayee brotha there was once a time” along with the 👀 emoji, a message that suggests there may be more happening behind the scenes than fans realize.
If Penn State can land both Spell and Taylor, it could create the type of domino effect Campbell needs to spark a massive recruiting haul in a 2027 class loaded with high-end Mid-Atlantic talent.
Another potential piece to watch: Appoquinimink (Middletown, DE) offensive lineman Layton Von Brandt shared on social media that he had a positive interaction with Campbell and offensive line coach Ryan Clanton. That connection could help Penn State build even more traction with top regional targets like Coatesville offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller and Owen J. Roberts (Pottstown, PA) wide receiver Matthew Gregory.
The momentum is real, and Penn State fans will be watching closely to see what happens next.
