Former Penn State QB Leads Team to Top 25

Penn State fans will miss Beau Pribula, who’s expected to enter the transfer portal after three seasons.

A former Penn State quarterback has led his new team to a place it hasn’t been in a long time.

It had been more than 21 years since Virginia was in the top 25 this early, and following a convincing conference win to start the year, the Wahoos are back.

Beau Pribula is a big reason.

Pribula, who spent his first three seasons at Penn State before transferring to Missouri ahead of last season, is now Virginia’s main man, and led UVA to a 34-8 win over NC State week.

He ended the afternoon completing nine of 11 passes for 155 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. But Pribula made his biggest impact on the ground, rushing for 110 yards on 15 carries. Running was what Pribula was best known for at Penn State. He ended his PSU career with 189 rushing attempts and just 56 passing attempts. Curiously, not everybody playing in the game was aware of what Pribula could do running the ball.

“Good player,” NC State linebacker Popo Aguirre said after the game. “We expected that, but we didn’t expect as many quarterback runs from him.”

Perhaps NC State would have been better off expecting it.

Virginia was off this past weekend but has another matchup set for Friday night against Norfolk State at home. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 on the ACC Network. Unless something goes horribly wrong, UVA will remain in the top 25 for at least another week.

Both of Pribula’s former college teams are in the top 25, too. Missouri is No. 23, and Penn State’s No. 16.
