Arguably the most accomplished player in WPIAL football history will announce whether he will stay committed to Penn State or go elsewhere next month.
Four-star safety Matt Sieg will officially commit to one of five schools on December 3, live on CBS Sports’ YouTube page, at 10 am.
The 6-foot two-way star at Fort Cherry High School outside of Pittsburgh will make his final call between Penn State, Pitt, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech, and Indiana.
The No. 11 safety in the class of 2026 and No. 3 player in Pennsylvania, Sieg has been locked in to Penn State since November 2, 2024, when Penn State hosted Ohio State.
Things changed when Penn State fired James Franklin on October 12, who Sieg has a very good relationship with. Now at Virginia Tech, Franklin offered Sieg and hosted him this past weekend in Blacksburg.
Sieg has remained committed to Penn State and hasn’t announced a decommitment at any point, but stated that he wanted to evaluate his options after Franklin was let go mid-season.
He was seen on the sidelines with quarterback Troy Huhn, running back Messiah Mickens, tight end Pierce Petersohn, all former top PSU recruits. Huhn and Mickens have flipped to Virginia Tech.
An elite quarterback and safety at Fort Cherry, Sieg broke WPIAL records and stands alone at the top of Western PA football with 12,592 yards from scrimmage and 139 touchdowns.
Sieg is currently Penn State’s highest-ranked recruit in a dwindled class that now ranks No. 82 in the nation by 247Sports.
