Penn State fought hard and played well, but it wasn’t enough to beat No. 2 Indiana.
In what’s been a theme to this wild 2025 season, Penn State was one stop from winning, and didn’t get that one stop.
The reaction from the Beaver Stadium faithful wasn’t the angry one that we saw after the Northwestern game Oct. 11.
But any loss is disappointing, and coming so close to a signature win for interim coach Terry Smith will sting.
Here’s how the Twitter world reacted.
PSU needs a coaching overhaul badly
1. Whoever comes in must let virtually everyone on the staff walk
2. A culture of playing not to lose won’t cut it here anymore
3. Bring in new coaches who have balls
4. The one guy you can keep is Terry Smith. He’s a PA man who will… pic.twitter.com/3fk5oZ8ujf

Good hard fought game by the boys.
Ill REEMPHASIZE IT. DETAILS MATTER
Had the ball up 4 with 2:09 on the clock. One first down wins you the game. Call a pass to get the first down. Ran a naked boot to the tight end in the flat. Saved yourself 9 seconds and gave the https://t.co/JHXL6E7pN0

Indiana coach Curt Cignetti in postgame on Lions QB Ethan Grunkemeyer: "Penn State's a good football team, and maybe they found their quarterback, too. A guy that can lead them to more wins the rest of the season here."

Amare Campbell said Penn State just has to close out tight games, and the recurring issue has ultimately plagued them this season.
Made it clear the team isn’t giving up.

It's past time to fire Andy Kotelnicki and change the offensive identity of Penn State.
I watch 15-20 games every Saturday and compared to what I see, we are running a HS offense that refuses to make the defense cover the entire field. https://t.co/vJVmbseUCx

That fucking foot is a microcosm of the entire season

Today is a good reminder that, despite its record, Penn State still has dudes. A ton of NFL talent on this roster.

The college football gods are just not on the side of Penn State this year. Just a devastating final minutes of play.

Some teams just find ways to lose. Penn State is one of those teams.

As per usual it’s the little things that cost us the game
-end of half management
-bad third down play calling with an opportunity to run the clockThis was a Franklin special. Played all the hits. He’s smiling on a beach somewhere.

This team, combined with being deeply flawed, can’t get a single thing to break their way.
We have now lost to Oregon and Indiana by the blades of the grass.

We just can’t win a big game.

Man this just fucking hurts.

Good game by PSU, but you can’t play not to lose against the #2 team in the country. Before Indiana’s touchdown drive, when we threw to the flat on that last 3rd-and-10 instead of going for the first down, I knew it was over. They’re ranked #2 for a reason.

Penn State players were met with cheers from the student section as they departed the field. Different reaction than the last game at Beaver Stadium. pic.twitter.com/Ew6NpNHbNM

There really is no difference between 4-5 and 3-6 at this point but shit, that one you tell the grand kids about. Freaking sucks

This Penn State defense couldn’t get a stop against Oregon.
Couldn’t get a stop against UCLA.
Couldn’t get a stop against Northwestern.
Couldn’t get a stop against Iowa.
And today, they couldn’t get a stop against Indiana. Story all year.

From what I can tell, no PSU media member asked Terry Smith about horrendous timeout call with 20 seconds left.
It was inexcusable to use last TO there. Handcuffed Lions badly.
If Franklin had done that, oh hell.
Terry is great guy. But he’s gotta be held accountable on that.— Cory Giger (@CoryGiger) November 9, 2025
