We knew Virginia Tech hiring former Penn State coach James Franklin would have an impact in the recruiting world, and he’s already projected to land one of the top former Penn State commits of the ‘26 recruiting class.
Multiple insiders from Rivals.com have predicted that Troy Huhn, a four-star QB from Mission Hills High School in San Marcos, California, will commit to Virginia Tech.
Huhn had been committed to Penn State for more than a year, making that decision in June 2024.
Last month, the firing of James Franklin changed a lot of things, one of them being Huhn’s recruitment.
Three days after Franklin’s firing, Huhn announced that he had de-committed from Penn State.
Penn State Loses Lone QB Commit as Recruiting Onslaught Continues
The No. 15 QB, No. 24 player in California and No. 228 overall player from his class per 247Sports has plenty of options.
Huhn has offers from schools such as Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, Cal, Florida State, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, UCF, UCLA and Washington.
It’s hard to imagine a blue-chip quarterback from California being interested in coming to Blacksburg, Virginia in the pre-Franklin era, but that’s the type of impact the former Penn State boss is already having.
Penn State also must consider the impact Franklin might have in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia area, here he got some of his best players (Tyler Warren, Olu Fashanu, Kaytron Allen), over his time at PSU.
With Virginia Tech being located in, believe it or not, Virginia, there’s no reason to think Franklin can’t continue to be a force in the DMV, and landing a player from California is a good sign of his abilities to land local talent.
