A guy who has been talked about throughout the Penn State coaching search might be close to an extension.
Per a report by On3Sports, Louisville is “working on a contract extension to keep Jeff Brohm with the Cardinals.”
Brohm has been “with the Cardinals” as head coach since 2023, but his Louisville roots go far deeper than that.
Brohm played quarterback at Louisville. His father played quarterback at Louisville. His two brothers played at Louisville, with one of them being a quarterback.
So Jeff Brohm was already a Louisville legend before he took over as coach, and his tenure hasn’t diminished that legend.
Brohm is a good coach.
He proved that at Purdue, where he took over a losing program and ended with a winning record in the Big Ten.
He’s proving it at his alma mater now, where he’s 26-10 overall and 16-6 in the ACC. One of the most recent wins was the biggest of Brohm’s career: Beating No. 2 Miami 24-21 on the road.
That win is the latest example of one of Brohm’s strengths, which was also James Franklin’s biggest weakness at Penn State— beating top five teams. Brohm is 4-4 against top five teams over his time at Purdue and Louisville. Franklin, on the other hand, was 1-14 against top five teams at PSU.
With that said, one of Franklin’s biggest strengths at Penn State was beating the teams he was supposed to beat.
Louisville’s recent loss to Cal was not the type of game Penn State would lose under Franklin.
With that said, it’s hard to argue Louisville wouldn’t be wise to extend Brohm.
The Penn State coaching search is far from over. Stay glued to NSN for updates.
