Penn State quarterback Drew Allar’s season is over, and likely his playing career in Happy Valley.
The senior signal caller injured his left ankle in the final minutes of Penn State’s 22-21 loss to Northwestern on Saturday.
James Franklin ruled out Allar for the remainder of the season in his final press conference at PSU, after Allar limped off the field. He was carted to the locker room and experienced a sad end to his career.
According to ESPN insider Pete Thamel, Allar underwent successful surgery on Wednesday on his broken ankle.
Thamel reported that Allar is on track for a full recovery from the injury. Allar’s timeline to be 100% is up in the air, but expected to return to workouts sometime in the upcoming months.
Allar entered the season as a Heisman candidate in his third year as a starter. He completed 65% of his passes for 1,100 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions in six games, but finished 3-3 during his senior year.
Allar is out of eligibility and didn’t redshirt during his freshman year, backing up Sean Clifford on the 2022 Rose Bowl-winning team.
He closed his Penn State career with 7,402 passing yards, 61 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions in 45 games, but Allar’s draft stock has likely fallen due to inconsistent play and the injury keeping him out of the remainder of the season.
Allar guided Penn State to two playoff victories, appearances in the Peach Bowl and Orange Bowl, and a Fiesta Bowl title during his historic Penn State career.
