Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley was named the top player in the NFL’s 15th annual Top 100 Players countdown.
Barkley played a pivotal role during the Eagles second championship run, where he set NFL records for most combined rushing yards in both the playoffs and postseason with 2,504 and total scrimmage in both the playoffs and postseason with 2,785, breaking former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis’ marks he set in 1998.
Philadelphia defeated two-time defending Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs 40-22, where Barkley had 97 yards from scrimmage (57 rushing, 40 receiving).
Barkley was ranked No. 86 in the 2024 edition of the NFL’s Top 100.
The previous high for a Penn State alum in the NFL Top 100 came from Micah Parsons who was No. 9 in the 2023 edition.
Barkley starred at Penn State for three seasons (2015-2017) and was head coach James Franklin’s first transcendent talent that reversed the fortunes of a program that was still reeling from NCAA sanctions.
During his time, Barkley set Penn State records for most touchdowns scored (53) and becoming the first Nittany Lions to achieve 5,000 yards from scrimmage (5,038).
Barkley is the first Nittany Lion to win the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year twice in 2016 and 2017.
Barkley and the Philadelphia Eagles look to defend their Super Bowl championship and open the 2025 NFL season Thursday evening against the Dallas Eagles at 8:20 PM (Eastern), broadcast on NBC.
