The Penn State-Oregon showdown is still more than a week away, but it’s never too early to talk about the spread.
Right now, No. 2 Penn State is a slight favorite over No. 6 Oregon.
CiracaSports has PSU as a three-point favorite, which is about as close as it gets, especially if you believe the adage that “the home team is given three points.”
That’s no surprise considering the stakes. After all, these are the same two teams that played for the Big Ten Championship last December, and although Oregon has lost key players such as Dillon Gabriel and Tez Johnson, the Ducks are still loaded enough to be near the top five.
Penn State returns most of its key players from last year’s team, which ended up coming within a drive of playing for the national championship game.
So, yeah, this is a big one.
TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS
Penn State and Oregon were each expected to be unbeaten coming into this matchup. PSU has held up its end of the bargain, starting 3-0. Barring a crazy upset at the hands of 0-3 rival Oregon State Saturday, Oregon will be unbeaten as well. Penn State plays nobody this weekend, which means it can’t lose, for those who don’t know.
Neither Penn State (Nevada, FIU, Villanova) nor Oregon (Montana State, Oklahoma State, Northwestern, Oregon State) has been challenged yet.
PENN STATE= MONEY

Drew Allar and the 2025 Nittany Lions quarterback room.
When Penn State is favored, it wins. Penn State has won every regular-season game it’s been favored to win since the start of the 2022 season (34-0). Although Penn State is generally a safe moneyline bet, the spread has been a different story. Penn State is 0-3 against the spread thus far, with late touchdowns scored by Nevada and Villanova leading to backdoor covers (which, to be fair, says more about how heavy the spread was those days than anything else).
But this isn’t the type of game where covering the spread matters.
Against a borderline elite opponent in Oregon, all Penn State fans are looking for is a win, regardless of the spread.
Penn State-Oregon is scheduled to begin at 7:30 on NBC.
