Two Penn State football players are facing charges for illegally possessing marijuana.
The Daily Collegian first reported Monday that defensive backs DeJuan Lane, 20, and Kenneth Woseley, 18, are being charged due to an incident that took place July 29, when campus police claim they smelled marijuana coming from Lane and Woseley’s apartment.
From there, the officers received permission to search and then allegedly found a plastic bag covering smoke detectors in the downstairs and upstairs hallways.
It’s also alleged that the two players covered the smoke detector in the apartment’s second bedroom with a plastic bag and two socks, per the Collegian.
“Police allegedly found a Muha Meds vape, containing suspected marijuana, in Woseley’s room, which he confirmed was THC and stated he didn’t possess a medical marijuana card,” The Collegan reported. “They found a black glass container in Lane’s room, allegedly containing marijuana, as well as marijuana dust in the trash can.”
Additionally, police allege that they found a bottle of alcohol in Woseley’s room.
The two are facing a misdemeanor charge for use/possession of drug paraphernalia and a summery offense for disorderly conduct hazardous/physical offense, per the docket sheet.
The officers filed a criminal complaint Aug. 1, four days after the alleged events transpired.
Each player is entering his second season at Penn State. Woseley redshirted last year, appearing in four games. Lane ended up playing much more than expected due to star safety KJ Winston suffering a season ending injury after the first game. He ended up playing in all 16 games and is projected to start at strong safety this season.
The two have their preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 27 at 8:30 a.m. under the office of Magisterial District Judge Donald M. Hahn.
