Penn State football’s quarterback situation for 2025 isn’t something people are too worried about, and Bekkem Kritza doesn’t figure to be a big factor just let.
For one, Kritza is a true freshman, and true freshmen generally don’t start at QB in the Big Ten.
Penn State also has one of the best QBs in the nation as its starter.
For all of Drew Allar’s shortcomings in big moments— and he’d be the first to admit that he’s had a few— his talent is undeniable, and anybody who doesn’t think that he could (keyword could) go No. 1 in next year’s draft isn’t paying attention.
Allar was a five-star coming out of high school. Kritza might just be an unpolished gem.
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 200 pounds
Hometown: Chandler, Arizona
Before Penn State: Kritza comes to Penn State after an unconventional high school career. He played at three different high schools between Colorado and Florida. Last season, he helped Chaminade-Madonna to a state semifinal berth. He committed to Penn State in November 2023, picking it over Colorado, Miami and Texas A&M, among others.
Where he stands: Barring injuries or other unfortunate events for Allar, Ethan Grunkemeyer and Jaxon Smolik, Kritza won’t get much playing time this year, if any at all.
As for most true freshmen, the key for him will be impressing James Franklin and the coaching staff on the practice field and in the film room.
A quote by Kritza: “I think it’s the best atmosphere in the country. When you go play in Beaver Stadium, I don’t think there’s anything else like it. I see myself on that field and playing in front of those fans, putting on a show for them.” — Kritza to NSN after his commitment
Breaking: Penn State ‘The School I Need to go To’ for 4-Star QB Bekkem Kritza
A quote about Kritza: “He is such an unpolished gem, in my opinion. I think that I could probably spend an hour just talking about what I think Bekkem Kritza is going to be.” — Penn State Director of Player Personnel Kenny Sanders on early signing day.
