One of the top defensive lineman in Pennsylvania has set an official recruiting visit to Penn State.
Stanley Montgomery announced on social media Tuesday morning that he would be taking an OV to Penn State June 5-7.
Montgomery, a three-star, 6-foot-3, 290-pounder from Philly’s Archbishop Ryan High School, had been committed to Syracuse.
But he de-committed earlier this month, and as of now, Penn State appears to be the team to beat. 247Sports’ lone “Crystal Ball” projection has Montgomery committing to PSU. He also has offers from schools such as Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State, NC State, Pitt, Rutgers, Virginia, Wake Forest and Wisconsin.
A sign of Montgomery’s interest in Penn State is the fact that he de-committed from Syracuse days after visiting one of PSU’s Junior Day events.
“After much thought and consideration and taking the time talking to my family I’ve decided to make the hard decision of decommitting from Syracuse University and reopening my recruitment,”Montgomery said in a statement posted on social media.
“I want to thank Coach Fran [Brown] and the rest of the staff for taking the time to recruit me. I’m excited to see what the future holds with reopening my recruitment.”
Montgomery’s visit also happened to coincide with Penn State men’s hockey playing Michigan State at Beaver Stadium, the first such game in program history.
“It was a great experience seeing the fans all come out for the game,” Montgomery told Ryan Snyder of Blue-White Illustrated. “I think what excites me about playing for Coach (Matt) Campbell is who he is as a person. Seems like a great person and a great coach and then also being a Nittany Lion and the love and support the fans give, who wouldn’t want to be a part of that.”
Penn State is still looking for the first commit in its recruiting Class of 2027.
