Penn State football is not amongst the group of finalist for PA’s top Class of 2027 player.
Per Hayes Fawcett of On3Sports, Maxwell Hiller, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound in-state OL from Coatesville, has four finalists, and Penn State is not in that four.
Instead, Hiller is choosing between Alabama, Florida, Ohio State and Tennessee.
If Hiller picks Florida, he’d be paired up with former Penn State offensive line coach Phil Trautwein, who’s returning to his alma mater. If he picks Ohio State, he’ll be joining one of Penn State’s conference rivals. Hiller is the No. 1 interior lineman in the country per Rivals’ industry rankings, along with the top player in PA and the No. 11 player nationally.
This is a big blow to Penn State, which is a week removed from the No. 2 player in the state in Kemon Spell, who is the top running back prospect in the country. Spell, a star from McKeesport High School in the Pittsburgh area, committed to Georgia almost four months after de-committing from Penn State. Spell and the rest Penn State’s 2027 class— which also includes four-star receiver Khalil Taylor (Pittsburgh), four-star ATH Gabe Jenkins (Pittsburgh) and four-star OL Layton Von Brandt (Middletown, Delaware)— de-committed either at or around the time the program fired James Franklin.
Penn State offered Hiller in May 2023, when he was still in the eighth grade. He’s made numerous visits to Happy Valley since then, with the most recent one being this past weekend for PSU’s second Junior Day event of the winter.
Penn State will continue to look for its first Class of 2027 commit since Franklin’s dismissal.
