For the first time in more than 20 years, Penn State football is represented on a video game cover.
Coach James Franklin and RB Nicholas Singleton are the schoolโs two representatives.
Now, itโs a little different than when Larry Johnson was the lone player pictured on the cover of NCAA Gamebreaker 2004.
Players from many schoolsโ including Toledoโ are on the EA College Football 26 Deluxe Edition cover.
But where this is unique is that, unlike Game breaker, EA College Football 26 is the No. 1 college football video game in town. Itโs also the first time a Penn State head coach has been on the cover of a video game, although Joe Paterno being on a Wheaties box was probably a fair trade off.
The choice to put Singleton on the cover is an interesting one considering EA had plenty of options. QB Drew Allar, DE Dani Dennis-Sutton or Singletonโs backfield mate, Kaytron Allen, all would have been viable options.
But video games are all about excitement, and there might not be another Penn State football player more capable of electrifying the masses than No. 10. Anybody who doubts that can simply take a look at this.
Along with being exciting, Singleton is productive.
A starter since early in his freshman season, Singleton is 1,021 yards away from breaking Evan Roysterโs record for career rushing yards at Penn State. The thing is, his own teammate might eclipse him. Allen is only 35 yards behind Singleton, so itโs not out of the question for eitherโ or bothโ runners to break the record (think Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa).
Penn State opens its most anticipated season in decades against Nevada Aug. 30 at Beaver Stadium.
