Philadelphia– The bonus points are already rolling for Penn State at this year’s NCAA wrestling championships.
Braeden Davis started the day with a major decision at 133.
Luke Lilledahl (125) and Mitchell Mesenbrink (165) picked up tech falls in their first bouts.
But one of the most exciting moments in wrestling is “the fall” (which some call “the pin”). Penn State got two of those within the first two hours of this tournament.
First, Tyler Kasak pinned Northern Illinois’ Landen Johnson at 157.

Later, Shayne Van Ness did the same to Wyoming’s Gabe Willochell at 149.

Kasak is seeded first in his class and Van Ness is No. 3, so each of them— along with really all of Penn State’s 10 starters— have a chance to go all the way.
