Dunn’s Career-High Fuels Penn State Basketball’s Upset of No. 12 Wisconsin

D’Marco Dunn scored a career-high 25 points (10-12 and 4-5 3-pointers) as Penn State basketball (16-15, Big Ten 6-14) upset No. 12 Wisconsin on the road, 86-75, at the Kohl Center on Saturday,

Yanic Konan Niederhauser notched a 15-point double-double (11 rebounds and five blocks), while Zach Hicks (14), Freddie Dilione V (12) and Nick Kern Jr. (12) added 38 combined points to help earn PSU’s highest ranked road win since February 2009.

Steven Crowl and John Blackwell led four double-digit scorers for Wisconsin (23-8, Big Ten 13-7) with 19 a-piece.

Overall, Penn State shot 56% from the field and 58% from 3. Wisconsin finished shooting 36% from the field and 32% from 3.

With the win, Penn State basketball now has four wins against top-15 ranked opponents in the Mike Rhoades era.

FIRST HALF

Wisconsin jumped out to an early 16-3 lead in the opening four minutes of the game, but Penn State wouldn’t go away. After pulling to within five (26-21), the Nittany Lions fell behind by 10 again by the 6:14 mark. Then, with Wisconsin missing its last nine shots, Penn State used an 8-0 run to pull within five by the intermission. D’Marco Dunn (10 points) and Nick Kern Jr. (eight points) had 18 of PSU’s 35 first-half points.

SECOND HALF

Penn State opened the second half with a 16-7 scoring advantage, with Baldwin Jr. giving the Nittany Lions their first lead of the day after converting an and-one layup (48-47). After, PSU saw a six-point lead disappear (60-59), it closed the half on a 27-15 run, with Dunn scoring 13 of those final points.

TURNING POINT

With Penn State trailing 40-27 in the first half, it outscored Wisconsin 21-7 over a 7:41 stretch to earn its first lead of the game.
