It wasn’t the offensive fireworks show that we’ve come to expect from Penn State wrestling star Mitchell Mesenrbink but he got the job done for his second straight Big Ten title.
Mesenbrink improved to 5-0 against Iowa’s Mikey Caliendo, and this one was closer than the previous four.
Three of the first four wins were of the bonus point variety— including two tech falls— and the other was a 12-6 decision in Iowa last season.
So a 4-1 win seems pretty close by comparison. It also seems close in comparison to Mesenbrink’s Big Ten Championship thriller against Wisconsin’s Dean Hamiti last March.
Rewind to the 2024 B1G Championships where Mitchell Mesenbrink (Penn State) overcame a 9-3 deficit to steal the title from Dean Hamiti (Wisconsin (OSU)).

Now, the focus will shift to nationals, where top-ranked Mesenbrink will be the odds on favorite to take home gold for the first time.
